Born-Paddington

On 26th May, 1915, the 1st Rifle Brigade battalion of 11 Brigade, 4th Division moved from the Canal Bank at Ypres into trenches near Wieltje where they remained until relieved on 2nd. The battalion diary recorded that things were relatively quiet here after the heavy fighting earlier in the month during the Battle of Frezenberg Ridge,  but they still had to contend with the usual shelling and sniper fire and that there were some casualties including Frederick Hambridge who was killed on 27th May.
